Upkram Educational Foundation is a non-profit organisation working to develop conducive spaces to strengthen the foundational language and literacy of children from underserved communities in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, to improve learning and life outcomes.

In 2018, Upkram started working passionately at Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, to bring educational equity and change the narratives to a positive one. We believe that every child, irrespective of their gender, ethnicity, and geography, has the right to quality education and to reach their highest potential. We do this by focusing on three areas – providing opportunities for experiential learning, exposure to diverse pedagogical practices to develop critical skills, and ensuring the emotional wellbeing of students.

Vision: Cultivating an ethos of informed discourse in rural India to empower the social mobility of historically disadvantaged communities.

Mission: Establishing schools as effective learning and discourse centers for children from underserved communities in Sonbhadra.

Our engagement is ensuring that we are building communities that drive education in their village and help transform how a government school is perceived in society.

To achieve this, we have designed below programs-

1. Abhivyakti- A program with the government primary school where the focus is on making school a conducive learning and discourse space for children from underserved communities of Sonbhadra and building teacher capacity in classroom management, language education and perspectives of education.

2. Jhola Library- After-school community library which caters to all the children in the community by providing access to quality literature and trained language educators who facilitate language activities.

Through these programs in close collaboration with the District Education Department, we have directly impacted 6,000 students, 70 teachers and 22 schools.

Your support will ensure nurturing the expression of children to build agency and bridge the educational inequity to promote inclusion of students accessing quality learning opportunities.
